Today, we’ll discuss the most lethal weapons in North Korea’s arsenal. The acquisition of nuclear weapons has given North Korea one of the largest standing militaries in the world.
Now that the situation has shifted, North Korea can publicly warn other countries not to meddle in its internal affairs.
Here is the list of the Top 10 most lethal weapons of North Korea
1. Pokpung Ho -III MBT
In the list of the 10 Most lethal weapons of North Korea, number 1 holds The Pokpung Ho. which is the backup leader of North Korea’s ground army. It can compete with South Korea’s cutting-edge tanks thanks to combining design components and equipment from many Soviet-era tanks.
Pokpung Ho is not a heavy tank weighing 44 tons, comparable to the t72. In a recent military parade, this tank was observed outfitted with a pair of anti-tank and short-range surface-to-air missiles on either side of the turret.
The 14.5-millimeter machine gun has been replaced with a twin-barreled 30-millimeter automatic grenade launcher.
2. HWA SONG-14 ICBM
This is a new north Korean road-mobile intercontinental ballistic missile. Russia, China, and possibly Ukraine assisted in developing this ballistic missile.
This explains the rapid progress of north Korea in the development of its new ICBMs capable of carrying a 500-kilogram warhead. The HWA SONG-14 is a two-stage missile.
This is the first intercontinental ballistic missile that North Korea successfully launched. Depending on its payload, this missile can travel up to 10400 kilometers, putting a large portion of the United States region within reach.
Judging by its nose cap, this ICBM carries a single warhead though there is no reliable information regarding the missile’s throw weight or even its warhead’s blast yield.
3. NONGO CLASS MISSILE BOAT
In a conflict, The North Korean navy will rely on its fleet of submarines and missile boats. The Nongo-class missile boat is a fast, small, inexpensive missile with powerful armaments.
These boats can reach speeds up to 92 kilometers per hour, making them extremely difficult to track.
It has a large weapons load for its size, enough to carry out shoot-and-scoot missions or swarm attacks on a superior naval fleet.
Six of these missile boats are reportedly in use right now, but as their effectiveness increases with numbers, they may soon be mass-produced.
4. SINPO CLASS SUBMARINE
When fully developed, North Korea’s Sinpo class submarine will be the country’s first ballistic missile submarine capable of launching a ballistic missile with a nuclear warhead.
With a submerged weight of only roughly 600 tons, it is the world’s smallest submarine of its class; its principal use is probably as a testing platform.
The next submarines could be larger and carry more than one ballistic missile giving them greater range and strike capability.
Because it is a diesel-electric submarine, it can stay submerged by shutting down all its machinery and functions.
Its range is speculated to be between 500 and 2500 kilometers. However, official data has not been made public.
5. KOKSON SELF-PROPELLED GUN
Self-propelled guns don’t have electronics; they can’t be stopped by jamming or electromagnetic pulses. This means they can work on even the most jammed battlefields.
The KOKSON 170 mm heavy artillery cannon is equipped with a 12-round magazine, an open turret, and a longer chassis.
Along with each Gun comes a truck that can carry ammunition and the Gun’s crew. But if employed properly, this weapon with a maximum range of 60 kilometers might do tremendous damage.
6 . MODIFIED SA-13 SAM
A mobile surface-to-air missile system with multiple short-range missiles is critical for ground-based protection and to supplement longer-range surface-to-air missile systems.
As opposed to the original Russian SA-13 system, which only had four IR-guided surface-to-air missile systems mounted atop a multi-purpose tracked vehicle, the improved North Korean version has eight smaller and newer missiles, essentially doubling the payload.
The system is light amphibious and can be used to protect armored columns from aerial attacks.
7. MIG-29 FULCRUM
This is the most advanced fighter in the North Korean Air Force’s arsenal. In 1988, the USSR sent them 17 MIG-29s for air defense.
Supporting these are a fleet of 200 MIG-21 and MIG-23 fighters, which stands no chance against the contemporary fighter fleet of their adversary.
MIG-29 is a fourth-generation fighter jet with a reputation for being a great dogfighter.
The R-60 and the R-27 air-to-air missiles, the only modern air-to-air missile types, have been spotted on the MIG-29 variant exported to north Korea.
8. KN-09 MLRS
North Korea recently unveiled the KN-9 multiple-launch rocket system. It has eight rockets mounted on a 66-wheeled truck and should be feared by anyone within 200 kilometers.
the development and production of this weapon system indicate that North Korea is beginning to modernize its military and is no longer reliant on obsolete hardware.
The KN-9 threat allows north Korea to comfortably target South Korea and its surrounding regions from within its borders.
In the event of war, such a powerful standoff system, if mass-produced and strategically deployed, will pose a significant threat.
9. NODONG MRBM (Medium Range Ballistic Missile)
The Nodong is a modified and enlarged soviet’s gun missile with a range of 1 500 kilometers. It is said to be extremely precise.
Nodong can be made to fly at high altitudes above the engagement envelope of the South Korean defense system making it extremely difficult to intercept therefore, The USA has deployed its THAAD missile defense system in South Korea to counter this missile.
This missile can carry a 1000-kilogram conventional or nuclear warhead. speculation is country has over 300 of these missiles.
10. KN-06 SAM (Surface to Air Missile)
one of the most lethal weapons of north Korea is the KN-6 surface-to-air missile system looks similar to the Russian S-300 air defense system, but the missiles are said to be shorter than those of the s-300 but at the same time are physically larger.
furthermore, The range of the KN-6 is said to be more than 150 kilometers making it a powerful defense system.
such advanced air defense systems in the North Korean military make it hard to invade without sustaining significant casualties.
with the KN-6, they also possess a powerful air defense system which, if deployed in the right places in the right quantity, could create a lot of problems for the southern neighbor in case of a conflict.
