Turkey develops a new

The Turkish technology company Robit Technology has developed a new multipurpose kamikaze drone called “Azab” with a long flight range.

The hang glider platform has a high payload capacity and has successfully passed all flight tests. It is planned to carry out shooting tests of the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) soon.

“We have carried out all the flight tests. We move on to ammunition testing. We will carry out ammunition tests in the coming months,” Selçuk Fırat, product manager at Robit Technology, told Anadolu Agency (AA).

The ammunition tests are expected to be completed by the end of the third quarter of this year, Fırat said. “We are ready for production. We will be able to cope with future orders”, he added.

Noting that different types of warheads can be integrated with the Azab drone, Fırat said it has two versions with wingspans of 2 meters (6.5 feet) and 1.5 meters.

“Azab, with a wingspan of 2 meters, can carry a payload of up to 15 kilograms (33 pounds),” he said.

The device can be deployed in various modes, such as throw and forget, free flight or with the help of an operator who can direct the Azab towards the target using its camera from a range of 200 kilometers. The device can also directly hit and destroy the target with the provided GPS coordinates.

Pointing out that special ammunition for the Azab can be produced and use warheads already in the hands of security forces, Fırat stated that mortar ammunition and RPG ammunition could be integrated into the Azab very easily.

Emphasizing that the Azab is a platform and can be shaped and used as desired, Fırat noted that there is no limitation in this regard and that the Azab can serve with piece and fire effect ammunition. Depending on the purpose.

Explaining that they have developed a 3-meter electric catapult to launch the Azab T150, Fırat said that the Azab T200 has a 6-meter catapult, and it can be launched from a truck or container once the rocket system, which is still in progress, finished.

Stating that they presented Azab to the Defense Industries Presidency (SSB) and received a positive response, Fırat said:

“The fact that a UAV with these characteristics can achieve flight with the load it has is not a point reached in Türkiye. Still, It is the only one of its kind in Turkey. We also see a lot of interest abroad. This week we have had contact with two countries. It will be a good product for our exports and military.”
