The four Type 910 test ships are China’s latest comprehensive test ships, independently developed and built. Compared with the previous Type 909, they are larger in size and can simultaneously conduct tests and appraisals of various weapon systems such as naval guns, missiles, radars, and electronic jamming.

 The focus of the four test ships is also different. For example, the 893 Zhan Tianyou ship mainly tests Haihongqi 10, cruise missiles, and anti-ship missiles, while the 894 Li Siguang ship focuses on hydrophone equipment and new concept weapons.

The two Type 909 test ships were designed and built in the last century to test a series of shipborne weapons, such as the newly developed vertical launch system, air defense missiles, phased array radars, and near-anti-aircraft guns. It is designed with a double-layer hull, equipped with vertical silos of different specifications and 533mm torpedo tubes. 

It has successively tested the Julang-2/2A submarine-launched intercontinental missile, the Eagle-18/A submarine-launched missile, and the Longjian-10B /20A submarine-launched cruise missiles/new thermodynamic torpedoes, etc.
