The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have confirmed, according to AP and AFP reports, that the death tolls in Gaza provided by Hamas are accurate.
These reports, citing unnamed IDF officials, indicate that the number of civilians killed exceeds that of Hamas operatives. These comments come from an unofficial briefing for foreign journalists led by military officers.
An anonymous IDF official, quoted by the AP, estimates that since the start of the war on October 7, at least 15,000 Palestinians have lost their lives in Gaza. Of these deaths, more than 5,000 are attributed to Hamas terrorists.
Use of human shields by Hamas
An anonymous Israeli official quoted by AFP said: “I’m not saying it’s not bad that we have a two-to-one ratio,” referring to the use of human shields as part of Hamas‘s “core strategy. ”
The official added that they expect this proportion to be “much lower” in the next phase of the war, indicating that “in the south, since we have basically doubled the population, operations are much more precise.”
The Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry has stated that approximately 15,900 people have died so far in the Gaza Strip.
