The Israel Defense Forces carried out an operation in the southern Gaza Strip as part of its offensive against Hamas.
Israeli Military Operation in the Gaza Strip
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have reported a nighttime operation in the southern Gaza Strip. This maneuver is part of a series of military actions focused mainly on the northern region of the enclave to counter the recognized terrorist group, Hamas.
The raid was carried out by combat engineering and tank units, supervised by the Gaza Division. The mission was to detect suspicious structures and clear the area of explosive devices. During the intervention, troops confronted Hamas members emerging from a tunnel, resulting in the elimination of these operations by the IDF.
Simultaneously, airstrikes by Israel were reported in several areas of the enclave, including the southern part of the Gaza Strip. These attacks have prompted the evacuation of approximately 800,000 Palestinians to the south, although many remain in the north of the enclave.
Airstrikes on Gaza City and Military Response
Israeli airstrikes have also hit Gaza City, especially in areas near Al-Quds Hospital. According to witnesses, the western outskirts of the city were one of the targets. Additionally, Palestinian media reported the bombing of a home linked to Ismail Haniyeh, leader of the Hamas politburo, located in the Al-Shathi neighborhood.
Despite the attack on the residence of Haniyeh, who currently resides in Qatar, the IDF did not immediately confirm casualties. In earlier events, it was reported that an Israeli airstrike had hit another family residence in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, killing 14 of Haniyeh’s relatives.
Meanwhile, the IDF continues the ground offensive in northern Gaza. Clashes between Israeli infantry and tanks against Hamas agents have been a constant, with the army locating and planning the destruction of tunnels used by the terrorist group.
Challenges of the Israeli Ground Offensive in Gaza
Israeli forces reported clashes against a group of approximately 15 Hamas members, where several of them were neutralized and their guard posts destroyed. The IDF, however, has not provided additional details about casualties in these events.
Since the start of the ground offensive last week, 25 Israeli soldiers have been killed, bringing the total to 341 since the start of the war on October 7. The capture of Gaza City represents a significant challenge for the IDF, as they face a densely populated area with the presence of explosive devices and an extensive network of tunnels used by Hamas for guerrilla warfare.
The IDF’s mission to eradicate the Hamas presence involves intense combat in complex urban terrain, marked by the terrorist group’s strategic defensive preparation.
IDF Confirms Airstrike on Hamas Vehicle in Gaza
The IDF confirmed carrying out an airstrike on Friday night in the northern Gaza Strip. The target was an ambulance that they said was being used by a Hamas cell. The attack occurred near an active combat zone.
Directors of three hospitals in Gaza reported that the attack coincided with the time when the wounded were being evacuated to the south. Captured images show damage outside the Shifa hospital, where multiple lifeless bodies were observed.
According to the IDF, the attack resulted in the deaths of several Hamas terrorists. They stated that additional information would be shared in due course and that additional details had already been provided to international allies.
Hamas Practices Revealed by IDF and US Officials
The IDF accuses Hamas of using ambulances to transport terrorists and weapons. They emphasize that the region is a war zone and that civilians have been urged to evacuate for their safety.
A Biden administration official revealed that Hamas attempted to evacuate wounded fighters in ambulances to Egypt. However, many of the evacuees were discovered to be members of Hamas, and the maneuver was prevented.
Additionally, Israeli authorities intercepted medical supplies that they say were intended to support underground Hamas terrorist operations in Gaza.
Intelligence Discoveries and Military Actions in the Gaza Strip
The Israeli army revealed the capture of a Hamas stronghold in Jabaliya. According to the IDF, valuable documents were seized that will be used in future conflicts.
In one operation, Israeli forces killed approximately 50 Hamas terrorists, although they also suffered casualties in their ranks.
The Hamas-controlled Gaza Health Ministry reported a high number of Palestinian deaths since the start of the conflict. However, this figure has not been independently verified, and there are accusations that it may be exaggerated.
Aftermath of the Hamas Attack and Israeli Military Response
Israel proclaimed a state of war with the purpose of eradicating the presence of Hamas in response to the terrorist group’s devastating assault on October 7, where approximately 1,400 people, mostly civilians, were brutally murdered in their homes and during a music festival. This terrorist offensive by Hamas sparked the ongoing war.
The city of Sderot was hit by rockets, causing minor damage to infrastructure. Additionally, interceptions of rockets over Tel Aviv by the Iron Dome defense system were reported.
Additional rocket attacks from Lebanon were also documented, attributed to Hezbollah and Palestinian allies, which have escalated.
