President Joe Biden stresses the need to neutralize Hamas, describing them as perpetrators of acts comparable to the Holocaust while emphasizing the importance of a future Palestinian state.
In a recent segment on CBS‘s 60 Minutes, US President Joe Biden strongly condemned the actions of Hamas, comparing its atrocities to the magnitude of the Holocaust. “He became involved in a barbarism that is as transcendental as the Holocaust,” said the president, establishing a forceful position against the recognized terrorist group.
When asked about a possible ceasefire, Biden was emphatic in his response: “ Israel must respond,” a statement that underlines the United States ‘ support for Israel in its legitimate fight against Hamas. The president directly criticized the terrorist group’s tactics, stating: “They have to go after Hamas. Hamas is a group of cowards. “They hide behind civilians.”
However, Biden also noted that Israel’s complete reoccupation of Gaza would constitute a “big mistake.” Instead, he advocated the formation of a Palestinian authority and the creation of a Palestinian state, recognizing that this strategy is crucial for long-term stability and peace. “ It is necessary that there be a Palestinian authority; it is necessary that there be a Palestinian State,” He stressed.
Regarding the recent Hamas attack on October 7, Biden acknowledged that, while Israel is not expected to adopt a two-state solution immediately, Jerusalem is aware of the divergence within the Palestinian population regarding the positions of Hamas and Hezbollah. He stressed that “significant portions of the Palestinian people do not share the views of Hamas and Hezbollah .”
